Trained as a trumpeter, Jia Hua was among the pioneer graduates from Singapore’s Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music where he studied on a full scholarship. By graduation, he had already been appointed by the Singapore Arts Festival to be the founding Orchestra Manager of the Singapore Festival Orchestra, and was later the first ever professionally-trained musician to be employed by the National Arts Council, where he played a key administrative role in a range of arts industry-wide development initiatives.

Before co-founding the MFO, Jia Hua also led Singapore's first professional brass quintet B5 Brass, and taught as an Adjunct Lecturer in Music at Temasek Polytechnic.

Still an active classically-trained violinist, she understands multiple perspectives from that of the performer to the event manager, which she successfully brings to the table in developing, promoting and executing a wide range of the MFO’s programmes.
