Thank You for 2014

December 29, 2014

Dear Colleagues, Partners and Friends,

Once again we find ourselves at the cusp of an exciting new year, looking back with satisfaction and humility in equal measure at what we have achieved and also taking stock of the hard-earned lessons that will put us in good stead for the future.

The Metropolitan Festival Orchestra is now almost 2 years old and it certainly has been an extraordinary journey. Buoyed by your fervent enthusiasm and steadfast support, we are proud to have grown in so many ways in the past year – with many new musicians and staff amongst our ranks alongside our seasoned veterans, new partners and supporters that believe in the MFO and have been touched by our music, and our own confidence in the amazing things that the MFO is able to achieve together with you.

2014 was immensely rewarding for the MFO with several noteworthy “firsts” – from maiden collaborations with the popular classical crossover group Il Divo and Grammy & Golden Globe Award-winning New Age artist Kitaro, to the Asian premiere performances of “The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers”, the first presentation of our “Bridging Frontiers” concert and the launch of our “Sounds of Leadership” programme for top corporate management professionals. We are proud also to have partnered with the Korea National Opera in the staging of “Soul Mate” – the first-ever performance of an original Korean opera in Singapore as part of Korea Festival 2014 at the Marina Bay Sands.

Already, much preparation and planning has been underway for what will be a bustling and highly energised 2015. Besides being an integral part of “Sing50”, the flagship SG50 event co-organised by The Straits Times and The Business Times at the Singapore Sports Hub, the MFO is also gearing up for our highly-anticipated debut collaboration with award-winning composer and conductor Tan Dun for the Esplanade’s Huayi Festival. Several other trailblazing projects are also brewing (we can’t wait to tell you the details!) and these shall be announced soon via our website and social media platforms.

Till then, Happy New Year from all of us at the Metropolitan Festival Orchestra and my very best wishes for an inspiring 2015.

Sincerely yours,

Dr Kevin Koh
